The design is slim and sleek, measuring Narrow bezels surround the display, and the slim chassis has the same degree design considerations offered on other QLED TVs. The Q9FN, in particular, slim's things down with a squared-off cabinet and a design that makes ports extra accessible with the use of a separate input box.
The TV stand has a squared-off u-shaped footprint and consists of two attachable metal feet that are then joined with a matching metal crossbar at the front. The whole thing has a footprint of I don't think the square-shaped stand looks quite as elegant as stand designs I've seen on some other Samsung TVs, but it does look very nice when set up.
Internet connectivity is offered via The One Connect box also has the TV's power connection, with power passing from the box to the TV over the same slim, semitransparent cable that carries all of your video, audio and data.
The box itself measures The nearly invisible cable is designed to be as unobtrusive as AV connections get, consolidating all of your tangled black cables into a single line to the TV.
The cable connecter is even designed to blend in with the rear panel of the TV, with the same textured finish and a purpose-built slot to clip into. The result is as close to wireless as Samsung can make a modern TV, and makes it much easier to maintain a clean look, especially when hanging the TV on a wall. In our testing, both in eyes-on viewing and measured performance, it delivered.
The opening scenes of Blade Runner demonstrated the crisp clarity and vivid color offered by the Q9FN, with a drab futuristic farmhouse punctuated with brightly lit windows glowing white, the deep red of blood and bright yellow flowers all coming through with realistic color.
The set uses full-array backlighting, with local dimming zones that brighten and darken to accentuate the displayed image. You won't find support for Dolby Vision, since Samsung favors it's own branded competitor, but you'll still get pretty great HDR performance regardless. In a Blade Runner scene with glowing sparks floating up from a fire, the individual sparks were bright against the black night, without the pronounced haloing seen on other high-end sets with less-precise local dimming.
Pair this dimming with a special filtering layer that cuts down on the elevated black levels that plague most LCD sets, and you've got some of the richest darks and blacks of any TV this side of OLED. Viewing angles are also excellent, perhaps the best we've seen on an LCD display. One of the several optimization technologies that fall under the umbrella QLED name is the use of special microlenses, which are used to enhance the viewing angles.
The specifics sound complicated, but the end result for viewing is easy to see, with clear, distortion-free color even when viewed from a steep angle.
The color quality looks great, and much of that is due to what Samsung calls percent color volume, which offers not only bit color and DCI-P3 color space support, it also does so at higher brightness, where color would normally begin to wash out. In our own testing, we saw the Q9FN reproduce In any case, it's close enough to percent for our liking.
Color accuracy was also good, though not perfect.Sony A8F 2018 TV Review - electrocutionez2.space
When tested with our spectrophotometer with the default out-of-the-box calibration, the Q9FN turned in a Delta-E rating of 2. But in actual viewing, the difference is hard to spot. If you're a real stickler for color accuracy, calibrating the TV should tighten up the accuracy a bit, making an already great-looking TV look even better. Connecting our Xbox One X was very convenient, with the Q9FN automatically detecting the console and enabling the various capabilities needed for the gaming device.
That may not sound like a big thing, but it saves a lot of time compared with smart TVs that may require enabling certain settings and features for the individual HDMI port you plug your console into.
It also means less setup time between you and your new copy of Red Dead Redemption 2.Go to Solution. View solution in original post. My best guess is no. Not via firmware update. They would more than likely release a one connect box upgrade for the q9fn to have the updated connections. Firmware updates cant supplement hardware limitations so that's my best guess and hopefully that's the case. I'm looking to buy a new TV too and I need this exact question answered before i buy.
My js is broken and I need to replace it.
Samsung Q9FN series (QN65Q9FN) review
I would gladly pay for an upgraded one connect box to add some of the newer features. Been some rumors that Nvidia might becoming out with a new Shield so I have restrained myself from that purchase for awhile as much as I have hated to. I agree with this post-Samsung it is only right and profitable to provide buyers of the q9fn with an upgrade one connect box. Thats right we need an one connect box uprade to HDMI 2.
Please Samsung do it! Regards from Germany. I agree with these post-Samsung gamers who bought the q9fn will give you more money for the upgraded one connect box. HDMI Issues? The improvements to the aging TV tech have been mostly incremental, so despite real innovation in those 10 years LEDs, quantum dots4K resolution, HDR they arrived slowly enough that it never felt like a revolution.
One hiccup too many, and that TV is going right back in the box and shipped off to the retailer from which it came came. As the number one TV brand in the U. Once erected and connected, the Q9FN all but completes the setup process itself. No annoying remote codes to hunt down and punch in. Here are the new features added to the Q9FN for With a new Ambient Mode, users can take a picture of the TV in its environment and it will mimic its surroundings, helping it sort of disappear into the room.
We found the TV had some trouble perfectly matching colors, but as long as the camera can see patterns and textures, it does a great job of mimicking those.
Apps like Netflix load incredibly quickly and start playing content almost immediately. Switching between apps is lightning fast, and playback always picks up where it was left off. Most of our favorite apps look as good on Tizen as on any other platform, and the impressive library of apps is growing all the time. Increasingly, we use our phones to find content, then simply cast it to whatever TV is handy. The Q9FN was always right there and reacted quickly to our streaming commands.
This just added another point a long list of reasons we think this is one of the most well-rounded TVs you can buy today. The Q9FN also sports a new advanced anti-reflective coating called Q Contrast Elitewhich dramatically improves the TVs performance in both dark and bright rooms.
By reducing light leaks, that coating also improves off-angle picture quality, which is just horrible on most TVs which use a vertical alignment VA LCD panel.
Samsung Q Color is an incremental improvement on its Quantum Dot technology, which helps the TV produce a wider array of colors and increase color volume.
You can learn lots more about HDR in our explainer. Let me be clear from the get-go: The Samsung Q9FN produces a deeply engrossing, enchanting, and engaging viewing experience. Over and over the word dazzling appears in my notes. Indeed, I was dazzled … constantly. If the TV can reach 2, nits as Samsung has suggested, it is only in specular highlights and with out-of-the-box TV settings. After our adjustments, we found the Q9FN could reach just over nits with a full-screen window, and closer to nits with a 5 percent window.
This is to be expected, since it requires a lot of power to drive all the LEDs in the TV to maximum brightness, whereas diverting all power to just just a few LEDs yields more intense luminance. With great power comes great responsibility, though, and there was visible evidence of the Q9FN going overboard in HDR mode at times.
It appears that the Q9FN sometimes opts to brighten up the entire picture to favor high brightness in general. In some scenes, this is easily noticeable in side-by-side comparisons with other TVs. The intense brightness can also cause a strobing effect, amplifying the judder of watching 24p movie content. Set to medium, though, the TV seems to find a sweet spot between excellent backlight control, deep blacks, and brilliant highlights.
Right out of the box, color in Movie mode was excellent with our review sample. Samsung rigorously vets and approves TVs before they go out for review, though, so out-of-box color on the model you get in a store may vary. That said, we know a professional calibrator can get this TV to an excellent standard of performance for both SDR and HDR content, and the color production is, again, dazzling.I assume this is a dead pixel.

Samsung 65-inch Q9FN QLED TV Review: Who Needs OLED?
It's sad and frustrating at the same time when you just spent 4, on a television and have these type of issues. The worst part of this situation is that we have to now come up with a few hundred dollars to fix it this issue which is very common on the consumer web. What exactly is the fix for this? Is it a total panel replacement or is it a simple inexpensive fix? This just happen to my q9fn 65", looks like a dead pixel bright dot with one vertical and one horizontal line running through it.
Going off of the troubleshooting that you have done, I recommend getting a service technician to have a look. I would love to help with this. Please send your full model code and serial number via private message. Sign In. Turn on suggestions.

Sadly, there's no cheaper inch Q9FN size with a more tempting price. Its single bar-style stand is also more about minimalism than showing off. You could even take a photograph of your paintwork or wallpaper and have that appear on the screen, so that the only part of the TV that stands out when seen from the front is that ultra-slender frame.
Of course, all this Ambient Mode cleverness would be considerably less effective if the TV had spools of cabling spewing out of it.
To get round this, Samsung uses an external connection box that connects to the screen by just a single, thin cable. But I guess it can just sit in your kit rack alongside your 4K Blu-ray player and games console. Samsung has delivered enhanced interactivity with your smartphones and tablets too, as well as some seriously cool new gaming related features.
Even using the Game Mode in its current incarnation delivers a superbly low input lag measurement of around 15ms on average. The two layer presentation of the Eden 2. Samsung continues to impress, too, with the quantity of apps it offers. Try and resist the temptation to turn the sharpness setting too high, though. Also on the colour front, we were struck when watching very bright HDR content by the way the 65Q9FN can retain the intensity of the lightest colors.
This blooming also becomes more exaggerated if you watch from a vertical viewing angle of more than around 15 degrees.
The system also equalizes sound levels across different inputs. Gimmicky though it sounds on paper, Smart Sound turns out to be an unexpectedly brilliant feature, making everything you watch sound palpably better without you needing to touch any sound adjustment menus.
